Goats Destroy Springhouse
Today we received an email from John in Summit Point, WV detailing a distressing event that happened nearby.
"In the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia a pair of rampaging nubian goats recently destroyed a 250 year old springhouse that was being restored. Eyewitnesses (one with a camera--see photo below) related that the pair climbed to the top of the ladder, jumped onto the roof, wrested the hammers from a pair of workmen nailing shingles to the roof, and smashed their heads in with the hammers, leaving the workmen's bodies draped over the peak of the springhouse. The goats then proceeded to destroy the back wall of the structure, moving all the stones to the front, where they apparently are in the process of constructing either a goathouse of their own or a trap to catch any unwary humans that might return to work on the springhouse.
Not even fully grown, these "kids" are well on their way to goat trauma stardom as the "Bonnie and Clyde" of the Mountain State. We can only hope that justice prevails and they slip and fall from some high rooftop on their next foray into (g)razing old buildings."
This is of great concern, not only because of the goats' homicidal activities, but because of their improved climbing activity and use of tools. It is possible that the goats in this picture attended a training facility of some kind, perhaps even a goat terror camp.
The CGTF will be sending investigators to West Virginia, and would appreciate any information that the public can provide on the goat situation in that area.
